Preamble

Over the past few years, we have compiled the questions most frequently asked by our partners, particularly those concerning tax obligations related to the submission of audited financial statements, the financial package for funding applications or possible tax rebates.

We realized that there is a wide range of information sources—some more accessible than others—available to answer these questions. Recognizing that navigating them could be demanding for our partners, especially for smaller or less well-equipped organizations, we created this guide to make things easier.

To ensure this tool’s relevance, usefulness, and accessibility, we consulted with about ten of our partners. They were very generous in sharing their comments and recommendations, for which we are sincerely grateful.

Their input proved essential to this process, which represents, for the Foundation, an opportunity to broaden the scope of its support by providing relevant and up-to-date information to a wider range of partners.

By contributing to the creation and sharing of tools like this one, we hope to enable our partners to devote more of their time and energy to their mission.

Objectives

  • Share a document that addresses the questions most frequently asked by our partners in recent years.
  • Provide more than just financial support by helping organizations understand their fiscal and legal requirements and strengthen their internal and organizational capacities.
  • Explain the legal and tax rules that non-profit organizations (NPOs) and charities need to understand and follow.

Please note

This document provides a general overview of the rules that apply to our partners, whether they are NPOs or charities. It offers straightforward explanations of the most common situations—which in themselves can be complex. The information provided is for information purposes only and is not intended to be exhaustive or to replace the law.

This document does not cover all possible exceptions. Finally, it is not intended to be authoritative, nor does it constitute accounting or legal advice. Readers are encouraged to stay informed of current rules and seek expert advice to guide their practice.
